The area provides critical resting and feeding areas for migratory birds. Birders from around the world come to witness the second largest concentration of Great Blue Herons in western Canada, some 15,000 waterfowl in autumn and more than 1,000 Tundra Swans during spring. The area is also within easy range of wilderness parks such as Kootenay National Park, Bugaboo, Purcell, Mount Assiniboine and Whiteswan Lake Provincial Parks.
Enjoy extraordinary hiking, camping, climbing, fishing and some of the finest wildlife viewing in BC. And after a busy day, soak up the mineral-rich waters of nearby Radium Hot Springs, Fairmont Hot Springs or Lussier Hot Springs.
The Columbia Valley is also an internationally renowned golfer's paradise with some eight area golf courses.
