Trail (population: 7575) sits along the Columbia River, shouldered by the Selkirk and Monashee Mountain Ranges.

The settlement that would become Trail emerged in the mid-1890s following the construction of a small smelter built to serve the Rossland mines. Today Teck Cominco is one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining operations.

Trail's strong Italian community filtered in during the early 1900s when workers arrived from Italy to build the railway. Visit Trail's Columbia Heights area today to see how these industrious settlers constructed homes and winding streets into the steep hillsides to resemble their homeland.

Hailed as the “Home of Champions,” Trail has produced a remarkable number of famous professional and Olympic athletes. The Sports Hall of Memories honours these local legends.

The community is located approximately 10 minutes from the Canada-US border.

Canada's renowned Red Resort offers a challenge any way you look at it. There's 360 degrees of skiing and boarding across Red and Granite Mountains. Enjoy exhilarating steeps, powder-filled bowls and some of the best tree skiing in North America.
